Shopping
A two minute walk down the hill from Valentines brings you to what is now a ring road round the base of the hill. This was the site of medieval Gourdon’s defensive moat and curtain wall. It is now a lively street with shops selling local specialities (foie gras, confits de canard etc), two boulangeries, several caves à vin, a bookshop, a chemist, hairdressers etc as well as bars and restaurants. The busy Saturday market is well worth a visit with its stalls of seasonal produce, two fish stalls, street food stalls etc. In high season there is also a Thursday morning market featuring local produce on the Place de La Mairie at the top of the hill. There is a nearby (2 mins walk) small Casino (grocery shop) which is very handy. Walk to the bottom of Rue du Cardinal Farinié and turn right. NB: it shuts on Mondays.
At the far end of Rue Gambetta there is a large Casino supermarket which is open on Mondays. An excellent butcher is to be found in Rue Cavaignac.
For shopping by car further afield there are lots of supermarkets on the outskirts of town: Intermarché, Carrefour, Lidl, Aldi.
